Rossie is delighted to celebrate “Pride Month” and we cannot think of a better way to kick it off than to announce we have been awarded the LGBT Youth Scotland ‘Bronze Charter Award’!
The Charter is an accumulation of 12 months of very hard work. We have reviewed various aspects of our organisation, through the LGBT lens of the Charter’s 6 key pillars – Leadership, Training, Policy, Practice, Visibility and Monitoring and Evaluation.
We have consulted with our staff and young people to ensure they have been actively involved in our development journey. As a result we have reviewed policies, trained over 70% of staff to increase their knowledge and awareness of LGBT matters, celebrated and educated about Purple Friday / Anti-Bullying Week/ and LGBT History Month. We have also improved and increased visibility related to LGBT materials across the Rossie campus, our social media and website.
These are just some examples of the amazing work that has resulted in us being awarded the LGBT Youth Scotland ‘Bronze Charter Award’.
We have created a ‘Next Steps’ plan so we do not stop here. Due to our LGBT submissions being of a very high standard, we have been told we can move to making submissions beyond the Silver Level, and go directly for Gold – so we are ‘Going for Gold’!
We feel very honoured to have been advised by LGBT Youth Scotland to start work on submissions for the Gold Charter.
We are also delighted to have some of our work selected by LGBT Youth Scotland to be shared with other agencies as ‘exemplars’ of good practice.
All in all, our partnership with LGBT Youth Scotland has been and continues to be very positive – our ongoing relationship ensures we are well placed to have a knowledgeable and skilled workforce that will deliver an excellent service to our young people. What a wonderful start to Pride Month!
